GDPR / Updated Privacy policy, Terms of service and My account

The deadline for GDPR is getting closer, so it was time to review the site’s Privacy policy and Terms of service pages. On the Privacy policy I added links with further information about cookies and how to delete or disable them altogether. There is now also further description about how and why we measure visitors and the role of social networks on the site.

In the Terms of service I added a paragraph about the site’s liability over user generated content. This is necessary as though we try to filter copyrighted materials, we cannot always decide the correct status of a text fragment.

As any responsible user, you should read the Privacy policy and the Terms of service to understand your rights and responsibilities when using the site.

I also fixed an issue with the My account page that I didn’t realize during the time of development. In the initial version a user could enter any email address without verification to be used as his/hers new address. This was a bad idea on my part as fake or someone else’s private address could have been used this way.

In the new version upon entering a new email address, an email is sent to that address with a verification link. The address is not changed in the database until the link is clicked. This link works only once and only when you are logged in to the site.
